Hong Kong

Top Tips

Most restaurants automatically add a 10% service charge to the bill. You don't need to tip anything additional. If you have dietary restrictions, double check ingredients with restaurant staff before ordering. Often vegetable dishes are still cooked with animal oils. When on an escalator, walk on the left and stand on the right — or risk the displeasure of everyone behind you! There's a handy map in every MTR station that details the surrounding area. Use it to make sure you're leaving from the correct exit, as some exits are very far apart. Get a rechargeable Octopus Card to use on buses, trains and convenience stores. It will save you a lot of time from lining up or fishing for change. Grab a taxi! Hong Kong can be oppressively hot sometimes, and taking a taxi is very affordable, quick and, most importantly, air conditioned!
